Ling Apresenta: Gê Viana

We accompany visual artist Gê Viana, a native of Santa Luzia, Maranhão, during the creative process of her intervention on one of the walls of the Ling Institute.

Along paths opened by a "machete cutout," Gê Viana re-proposes classic images of Brazilian iconography in an intense articulation of memory and ancestry, reclaiming her identity as an Anapuru Muypurá Indigenous woman. Through connection with the territory and the activation of ancestral technologies such as the pipe, other perspectives of freedom, beauty, wealth, and power emerge, amid multiple temporalities of colonial devastation. The work is part of the "Ling Presents" project, curated this year by Bitu Cassundé.
